This is my first time making a 2D animation. So, I thought to work with something familiar,
to have an easier start.
Pokémon is a show I grew up with and it was also a huge source of inspiration when I
started my drawing journey. Pikachu is one of many creatures I drew the most as a kid.
Regarding my animation, I wanted to draw Pikachu running, but I found it boring. Not only
was it done a million times by other people, but I also wanted to challenge myself and add
other things to the animation. I decided to take inspiration from one of the first GameBoy
Pokémon games ’Yellow Edition’.
I wanted to create some sort of opening. Drawing a running Pikachu was the first step, but
the twist was to make him ’notice’ the viewers midway through the animation, sit down and
greet them. Meanwhile in the back, the Pokémon opening scene. Moving grass, to create an
effect of a windy day, the sun and clouds entering the animation sideways and lastly, the
Pokémon logo. For some reason I wanted to make the logo fall from the sky to the ground.
